Samuel was baptised the son of Henry and Charlotte at Newbent Chapel (Chowbent). His father Henry died when he was 6, and his mother Charlotte remarried, so it is possible he was brought up (fostered) by his uncle John, a Plumber & Glazier (and possibly a Joiner).
After his father died, Samuel moved to Brinnington, Cheshire (with his mother). Samuel's mother married Thomas Hadfield 21 Aug 1836 in Cheadle, Cheshire.
In 1850, Samuel, Son of "John" Mather a Joiner married Mary Holland at Heaton Chapel, St Thomas, Heaton Norris, Manchester.
In 1851, Samuel born Chowbent, and Mary (24 & 25) were at Stockport with Samuel's mother Charlotte Hadfield (73) and their 4 month old child John Mather. (John's birth record confirms the MMN = HOLLAND)

The Thomas that married Catherine Lay is another from Prescot.

John, a weaver from Atherton had all the children baptised at Chowbent. He was buried there in 1831, aged 39. The closest match is John son of Samuel and Ellen, born Atherton in Nov 1790.
There are two sons of Mary Mather, Robert and John, born 1814 and 1817 with no father named. These are likely to be the children of John and Mary, but before they married.
15 Jul 1815, John Mather a weaver married Mary Jones at Farnworth, but this now seems unlikely to be the same John (as there is no death record for Mary).
12 Nov 1820, John married Mary Harrison at Leigh. He married her 3 days after she gave birth to Elizabeth, but in time to be named on the baptism.
In 1841 & 1846, John's daughters Mary and Ellen were living at Alfred Street, Atherton when they married at St George's.
John and Mary had all the children baptised at Chowbent. The two early children, Robert and John are buriied there, and John joined them in 1831, aged 39.

This cannot be the Betty Mather, daughter of John & Mary of Atherton, as she was still with her Mother in 1841.
This is Betty, daughter of Charles and Mary Mather of Lowton, baptised at St. Luke. Charles is a weaver.
Betty must have married very young in 1935 if she was on 20 in 1841, and Roger 28. She was only 15 years.
In 1841, Roger and Betty (27 & 21) were at Lowton. Roger was a silk weaver.
In 1851, Roger and Betty Hart (37 & 31), both born at Lowton, were at Goldborne, Lancashire.
Betty died at Lowton in Mar 1859, aged 39. They had no children (although Charles had a Brother William who married Mary Mather and they had several children at Lowton).

Its unlikely this is Nathan's wife. Nathan Mather of Westleigh had a still-born birth 11 Dec 1791, so his wife was still alive then.

There is also a John Mather, Machine maker who married Ann Thomason
John was quite old when he married Elizabeth (probably Elizabeth Wild in 1828). Before then he was probably married to Ann, who died in Atherton in 1819, aged 29.
1833-1837, John was a weaver at Tyldesley when MaryAnn, Sarah and Phoebe were baptised.
In 1841, John and Elizabeth (56 & 40) were at Mop Row, Tyldesley with their three daughters Mary Ann (8), Sarah (6) and Phoebe (4).
John died between 1841 and 1851
In 1852-53, John must have been relatively prosperous as his daughters Sarah and Mary Ann both married by certificate at Tyldesley (recording their father John Mather as deceased).
