William was born in April 1846 in Horwich and his baptism took place there on May 17th, 1846.¹²

Birth Notes

William's father was John Mather and his mother was Jane (Jenny) Roskell. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Calderbank. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, John, Edward, James, Mary, Alice and Jane. He died at 5 months old in September 1846 in Horwich. He was buried on September 6th, 1846 in Horwich.³
