Ellen was born on October 15th, 1843 in Adlington and her baptism took place on July 7th, 1844 at St. Katherine (B'rod).¹

Birth Notes

Ellen's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley. Her paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. She had five brothers and three sisters, named George, James, Isaac, Nathan, Thomas, Esther, Peggy and Lucy. She was the youngest of the nine children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, Edward, Thomas, William, Mary, Alice, Ellen and Catherine.
