Margaret, known as Peggy, was born in January 1825 in Adlington and her baptism took place on March 13th, 1825 in Blackrod.1 2  Peggy's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. She had five brothers and three sisters, named George, James, Isaac, Nathan, Thomas, Esther, Lucy and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the nine children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, Edward, Thomas, William, Mary, Alice, Ellen and Catherine.  She died at the age of 63 in 1888 in Adlington.3

‌Peggy and Richard were married in a religious ceremony on September 11th, 1843 at St. Mary (Deane) by a curate and witnessed by Abraham Boardman & Thomas Newton.4   They had three sons and ten daughters, named Thomas, Edmund, Henry, Sarah, Margaret, Ann, Esther, Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth, Margaret, Harriot and Martha.
