Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley.  His paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. He had four brothers and four sisters, named George, James, Isaac, Nathan, Esther, Peggy, Lucy and Ellen.  He was the second youngest of the nine children. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, Edward, Thomas, William, Mary, Alice, Ellen and Catherine.  He died at the age of 11 in February 1849 in Adlington.  He was buried on February 9th, 1849 in Rivington.³
