Lucy was born in December 1832 in Adlington and her baptism took place on January 13th, 1833 at St. Katherine (B'rod).1  Lucy's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. She had five brothers and three sisters, named George, James, Isaac, Nathan, Thomas, Esther, Peggy and Ellen.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, Edward, Thomas, William, Mary, Alice, Ellen and Catherine.  She died at the age of 57 in December 1889 in Adlington.2

‌Lucy and James were married in a religious ceremony on October 1st, 1855 at St. Laurence (Chorley).4  They had a son and a daughter, named Alfred and Esther.  There are no more children.
