Nathan was born on August 19th, 1788 in Blackrod and his baptism took place on September 14th, 1788 at St. Katherine (B'rod).1 2  Nathan's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Entwistle.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Bromiley. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, George, James, Isaac, Mary, Betty and Alice.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 70 on January 10th, 1859 in Horwich.  He was buried on January 13th, 1859 at St. Peter's (Bolton).3 4

‌Nathan and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on November 6th, 1809 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by minister John Wilson and witnessed by William & James Orrell.7   They had three sons and seven daughters, named John, Nathan, Richard, Ann, Mary, Alice, Elizabeth, Ellen, Agnes and Sarah.
