Betty's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann Entwistle.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Bromiley. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, John, George, James, Isaac, Mary and Alice.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 40 in August 1833 in Rivington.  She was buried on August 4th, 1833 in Horwich.²
