George was born in 1826 in Blackrod and his baptism took place on September 3rd, 1826 in Blackpool.¹

Birth Notes

George's father was James Makinson and his mother was Betty Mather. His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Entwistle. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, John, Nicholas, George, Richard, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth and Alice. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
