Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann Entwistle.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Bromiley. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, John, George, James, Isaac, Betty and Alice.  She was the oldest of the nine children.  She died at 1 months old in February 1785 in Blackrod.  She was buried on February 13th, 1785 in Blackpool.¹
