George was born on March 20th, 1795 in Blackrod and his baptism took place on April 19th, 1795 at St. Katherine (B'rod).¹

Birth Notes

George's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Entwistle. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Bromiley. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, John, James, Isaac, Mary, Betty and Alice. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
