Thomas Mather

Thomas was born in January 1834 in Blackrod and his baptism took place on February 9th, 1834 at St. Katherine (B'rod).^1 2

Thomas' father was Ralph Leyland and his mother was Ellen Hope.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Hope and Betty Hope. He had a brother named Ralph.  He was the older of the two children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named George, John and Ann.  He died after 1891 in Lancashire.³ 

‌Thomas and Ellen were married in a religious ceremony on June 8th, 1857 at St. Peter's (Bolton).⁵   They had five sons and two daughters, named James, John, James, William, George, Amelia and Ellen.  There are possibly more children.
