Ralph Mather

Ralph was born on April 12th, 1840 in Blackrod and his baptism took place on June 7th, 1840 at St. Katherine (B'rod).¹

  Ralph was born 12 Apr 1840, the bastard son of Ellen Mather of Blackrod, widow. The record had spinster and then corrected to widow

Ralph's father was Ralph Leyland and his mother was Ellen Hope. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Hope and Betty Hope. He had a brother named Thomas. He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named George, John and Ann. He died at the age of 49 in 1889 in Bolton.²

  In 1901, Margaret was a widow with 5 children.
