Sarah was born in 1778 in Adlington and her baptism took place on August 23rd, 1778 at St. Katherine (B'rod).1  Sarah's father was Thomas Riding and her mother was Jane Walsh. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, Thomas, Jonathan, Peggy, Catherine, Ellen and Jenny.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
