Catherine was born in 1782 in Adlington and her baptism took place on March 17th, 1782 in Blackrod.1  Catherine's father was Thomas Riding and her mother was Jane Walsh. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, Thomas, Jonathan, Sarah, Peggy, Ellen and Jenny.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
