Alice was born in March 1868 in Adlington and her baptism took place on April 10th, 1868 at Christ Church (Adlington).1 2  Alice's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Jane Norris.  Nathan Mather and Catherine Bibby were her grandparents through her father's adoption. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Hugh, Charles, Mary, Betsy, Ellen, Martha, Rose and Margaret.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.

‌Alice and George were married in a religious ceremony on April 18th, 1894 at St. Paul (Adlington) witnessed by John Lee & Betsy Mather.3   The family line is yet to be completed.
