Betsy was born in March 1872 in Adlington and her baptism took place on May 26th, 1872 at Christ Church (Adlington).1 2  Betsy's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Jane Norris.  Nathan Mather and Catherine Bibby were her grandparents through her father's adoption. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Hugh, Charles, Mary, Alice, Ellen, Martha, Rose and Margaret.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 30 in January 1903 in Adlington.3

‌Betsy and William were married in a religious ceremony on August 7th, 1897 at St. Paul (Adlington) by T Hopkins and witnessed by Luke Gent & Mary Ann Jones.4  The family line is yet to be completed.
