Mary was born in 1853 in Adlington and her baptism took place on November 6th, 1853 at Christ Church (Adlington).¹²

Birth Notes

Mary's father was Richard Hanson and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley. She had three brothers and nine sisters, named Thomas, Edmund, Henry, Sarah, Margaret, Ann, Esther, Nancy, Elizabeth, Margaret, Harriot and Martha. She was the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.
