Martha was born in March 1868 in Adlington and her baptism took place on March 15th, 1868 at Christ Church (Adlington).¹

Birth Notes

Martha's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Alice Hargreaves. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, James, Esther, Martha, Rachel, Margaret, Rachel, Elizabeth and Alice. She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
