James was born in 1866 in Adlington.¹

Birth Notes

James' father was Isaac Mather and his mother was Alice Hargreaves. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Esther, Martha, Rachel, Margaret, Martha, Rachel, Elizabeth and Alice. He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 1 in 1867 in Adlington.¹
