Mary was born in September 1748 in Heath Charnock and her baptism took place on September 25th, 1748 in Rivington.1  Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was <unknown>.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Knowles. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Nedde, Nathan, Betty, Aggie and Alice.  She died at the age of 81 in January 1830 in Adlington.  She was buried on January 26th, 1830 at St. Wilfred (Standish).

‌Mary and John were married in a religious ceremony on January 30th, 1775 at St. Wilfred (Standish) by Curate Thomas Knowles and witnessed by Thomas Greenhow & Henry Aspinall.2
