Nathan's father was John Mather and his mother was <unknown>.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Knowles. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Nedde, Mary, Betty, Aggie and Alice.  He died at the age of 9 in February 1771 in Adlington.  He was buried on February 14th, 1771 in Rivington.¹
