Alice's father was Thomas Rigby and her mother was Betty Mather. Her maternal grandparents were <unknown> and Mary Mather. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Joseph, Alfred, Thomas, Alice, Mary, Sarah and Catherine. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
