Mary's father was Thomas Rigby and her mother was Betty Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were <unknown> and Mary Mather. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Joseph, Alfred, Thomas, Alice, Alice, Sarah and Catherine.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 4 in May 1843 in Adlington.  She was buried on May 14th, 1843 in Rivington.³
