Agnes was born in 1857 in Blackrod.¹ Agnes' father was Robert Wilson and her mother was Elizabeth Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Nathan Mather and Alice Makinson. She had a brother and a sister, named Richard and Margaret. She was the second oldest of the three children.
