Elizabeth was born in 1821 in Blackrod. Elizabeth's father was Nathan Mather and her mother was Alice Makinson. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Entwistle. She had three brothers and six sisters, named John, Nathan, Richard, Ann, Mary, Alice, Ellen, Agnes and Sarah. She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.General Notes
