Nathan's father was Nathan Mather and his mother was Catherine Bibby. His paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. He had six brothers and five sisters, named John, Edward, Nathan, Edward, Thomas, Richard, Mary, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Margaret. He had an adopted brother named Edward. He died due to a childhood disease at the age of 1 in April 1828 in Adlington. His burial was on April 10th, 1828 in Rivington.²¹
