Mary was born in 1816 in Adlington and her baptism took place there on July 7th, 1816.1  Mary's father was Nathan Mather and her mother was Catherine Bibby.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward (Nedde) Mather and Mary Hough. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named John, Edward, Nathan, Nathan, Edward, Thomas, Richard, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Margaret. She had an adopted brother named Edward.

‌Mary and William were married in a religious ceremony on October 3rd, 1842 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by Curate P A Galindo and witnessed by James Liptrot & Ellis Harlam.2  They had two daughters named Betsey and Catherine.  There are no more children.
