James Henry Mather

James' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Ellen Walkden.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph Leyland and Ellen Hope. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, James, William, George, Amelia and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the seven known children.  He died at the age of 4 in March 1862 in Blackrod.  He was buried on March 6th, 1862 at St. Katherine (B'rod).²
