John's father was Edward (Nedde) Mather and his mother was Mary Hough.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, Alice, Mary, Margaret, John, Agnes, Betty and Nancy.  Nathan and John were twins.  He died at the age of 1 in April 1790 in Adlington.  He was buried on April 29th, 1790 in Rivington.^1 2
