Thomas was born in 1724 in Radcliffe and his baptism took place there on January 1st, 1725.1  Thomas' father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Knowles.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Kellett. He had a brother and two sisters, named John, Susannah and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the four known children.
