Henry & Charlotte had John, Henry & James in 1813-26, all baptised at Chowbent Chapel.
1732 - 1795 Thomas Mather 63 63 Cant find a marriage for Thomas and Mary! 1768 Ann Mather 1776 Isabella Mather The Bolton marriage appears to fit to this Isabella.  Then there are baptism records for children of John and Isabelle Robinson from 1802 at Colne, Lancashire.

In 1841, John and Isabella (both 60) were at Bretherton, Croston, Leyland.  This is probably not John and Isabella Robinson.
1773 Jane Mather Jane married Thomas Webster, a weaver, in Leigh St Mary, 26 April 1791. 1760 Beatrice (Batrix) Mather 16 May 1870, Beatric Mather married William Gregory at St Mary, Deane 1782 - 1855 Charlotte Sidlow 73 73 Charlotte moved to Brinnington, Cheshire with her son Samuel (1851 census). 1813 - 1816 John Mather 3 3 1818 - 1819 James Mather 1 1 1826 Samuel Mather Samuel was baptised the son of Henry and Charlotte at Newbent Chapel (Chowbent).  His father Henry died when he was 6, and his mother Charlotte remarried, so it is possible he was brought up (fostered) by his uncle John, a Plumber & Glazier (and possibly a Joiner).

After his father died, Samuel moved to Brinnington, Cheshire (with his mother).  Samuel's mother married Thomas Hadfield 21 Aug 1836 in Cheadle, Cheshire.

In 1850, Samuel, Son of "John" Mather a Joiner married Mary Holland at Heaton Chapel, St Thomas, Heaton Norris, Manchester.

In 1851, Samuel born Chowbent, and Mary (24 & 25) were at Stockport with Samuel's mother Charlotte Hadfield (73) and their 4 month old child John Mather. (John's birth record confirms the MMN = HOLLAND)

1821 - 1824 George Mather 3 3 1824 - 1824 Robert Mather 6m 6m 1806 - 1810 Mary Mather 4 4 1824 Hannah Mather ~1780 Thomas Hadfield 1771 John Mather ~1770 Martha (Matty) Higginson Named Martha for baptism of first child Mary, but Matty thereafter.
1798 Beatrice Mather Beatrice married in 1824, and Sarah Mather was witness.  Who is Sarah?  Married at Farnworth St Luke, Near Prescot, so probably another Beatrix. 1795 Thomas Mather In 1811, Thomas from Chowbent, b.1795, aged 16, was with the 33rd Foot Soldiers, in Canada (see Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service)

Beatirce (sister) is a unique name at these time.  She married at Farnworth in 1824.  It follows therefore, the marriages of Thomas (1820) and James (1829) are also at Farnworth.  However, the (old) Thomas that married in 1820 was a Gardener, marrying a widow.

The Thomas that married Catherine Lay is another from Prescot.

1793 Mary Mather 1802 James Mather Beatirce (sister) is a unique name at these time.  She married at Farnworth in 1824.  It follows therefore, the marriages of Thomas (1820) and James (1829) also at Farnworth are her brothers. However, who is James's witness William Mather? ~1775 John Robinson ~1792 Ralph Foster ~1796 Mary Harrison 22 Oct 1838, Richard Lee (widower) of Alfred Street, son of Joseph Harrison a farmer married Mary Mather (widow) of Castle Street, daughter of Joseph Harrison, a farmer.

In 1841, Richard and Mary Lee (40 & 50) were with Betty, Jane, Thomas, Ellen, Ann, John and Richard Mather.  They also had Mary and Ellen Lee (9 & 7) at Alfred Street, Tyldesley.
1820 Elizabeth (Betty) Mather In 1841, Betty (20) was with her mother and step-father Richard and Mary Lee at Atherton.  She was listed first in the second sequence of children after Mary and Ellen Lee (9 & 7) 1821 Mary Mather 26 Sep 1841, Mary Mather of Alfred Street, daughter of John Mather a weaver married Thomas Dixon, a picker maker.

In 1851, Mary Dixon (29, Wid) was Richard's (21) sister and had a daughter Ellen Dixon (4).

In 1866, Ellen died aged 45 (should be 49)
1818 - 1844 Ellen Farnworth 26 26 Based on Edward born 1844, his mother's maiden name was Farnworth.  There were no other children (registered in Cheshire)

Ellen, daughter of Richard Farnworth married John "Marlor" at Oldham St Mary. The BMD Index has John "Mather" indexed, and they were living at Duckinfield in 1843 when Edward was born.
~1780 John Mort John is named father on Ellen's marriage of 1845. 1783 Ann Mort Ann (78) was living with John and Ellen in 1861 1843 - <1901 Edward Mather 58 58 Edward was born Dukinfield, Cheshire, the son of John and Ellen Mather

In 1881, John Mather (16, step-son) was with Nicholas and Sarah Croston (46 & 44) at 20 Common Street, Atherton.

17 Oct 1888, Ellen Mather (23), a spinster at Morris Green, Middle Hulton, the daughter of James Henry Mather (Gentleman) married John Mather (a clogger), son of William Eckersley at Deane Parish Church.

1 June 1887, John and Ellen Mather were witness to John William Mather's marriage to Elizabeth Williams

~1750 Edward Mather ~1750 Betty Walch 1773 Betty Mather 1761 - 1799 Ellen Green 38 38 1792 - 1795 James Mather 3 3 1798 Samuel Mather 1794 - 1866 Jane Mather 72 72 In 1813, Jane married Nathan Monks at Leigh

In 1861, Jane (72) was the mother-in-law of Richard (and Mary) Leddon.
1766 Samuel Mather Samuel was a Weaver, and also shown as a pauper in 1794 on Jane's baptism, although not later on son Samuel's.

Samuel & Ellen married at Leigh. had baprisms at Atherton, and burials at Deane.

In 1799, Samuel's wife Ellen died.  Samuel does not appear to have remarried.
1796 - 1834 James Mather 38 38 This is not the James b.1792 from Rumworth in 1841.  The 1851 cesus shows that James was born in Turton

James did NOT marry Betty Jameson on 5th Jan 1815 at Leigh.  That was another older James Mather b.1792 Atherton that lived to over 80.

Therefore, this leaves James b.1796 from Hindley who was buried at Deane in 1834, aged 38.  He may have married Esther Plat 13 Feb 1814 at Leigh.  There are no Leigh baptisms for James and Esther.

1788 - 1863 Ann Mather 74 74
In 1810, Ann had an illegitimate child William Mather

In 1841, Ann Mather (50), was a Silk Weaver at Bag Lane, Atherton with apparent lodgers, Joseph WIld (14), and Betty and Lydia Toppings (20 & 3).

In 1851, Ann Mather, Silk Weaver, was at Bag Lane, Atherton, 62 and unmarried with three lodgers.

In 1861, Ann Mather (75), formerly a Silk Weaver, was with her son William at Factory Street, Atherton.

In 1863, Ann Mather, Spinster of Atherton, died aged 76

In 1841, aged 17, living with mother "Mary Lee" and Richard Lee and Siblings at Alfred Street, Tyldesley
1828 John Mather John aged 13, living with his mother "Mary Lee" and Richard Lee and siblings at Alfred Street, Tyldesley

In 1861, John (33, Wid) is working for his younger brother Richard, a provision dealer.

In 1867, his daughter (tbc) Mary Ann Mather married Joseph Hindley.  John was a Shop Keeper.
1796 Richard Lee 22 Oct 1838, Richard Lee (widower) of Alfred Street, son of Joseph Harrison a farmer married Mary Mather (widow) of Castle Street, daughter of Joseph Harrison, a farmer.

In 1841, Richard and Mary Lee (40 & 50) were with Betty, Jane, Thomas, Ellen, Ann, John and Richard Mather.  They also had Mary and Ellen Lee (9 & 7) at Alfred Street, Tyldesley.
1834 Ellen Lee Martha Heywood 1832 Mary Lee In 1851, Mary Lee (18), Ellen (16) and Richared (54) were at Tyldesley. D. <1851 Thomas Dixon 1847 Ellen Dixon 1790 - 1831 John Mather 40 40 John, a weaver from Atherton had all the children baptised at Chowbent.  He was buried there in 1831, aged 39.  The closest match is John son of Samuel and Ellen, born Atherton in Nov 1790.

There are two sons of Mary Mather, Robert and John, born 1814 and 1817 with no father named.  These are likely to be the children of John and Mary, but before they married.

15 Jul 1815, John Mather a weaver married Mary Jones at Farnworth, but this now seems unlikely to be the same John (as there is no death record for Mary).

12 Nov 1820, John married Mary Harrison at Leigh.  He married her 3 days after she gave birth to Elizabeth, but in time to be named on the baptism.

In 1841 & 1846, John's daughters Mary and Ellen were living at Alfred Street, Atherton when they married at St George's.

John and Mary had all the children baptised at Chowbent.  The two early children, Robert and John are buriied there, and John joined them in 1831, aged 39.
1821 - 1896 John Tyldesley 75 75 1819 - 1859 Betty Mather 39 39 This cannot be the Betty Mather, daughter of John & Mary of Atherton, as she was still with her Mother in 1841.

This is Betty, daughter of Charles and Mary Mather of Lowton, baptised at St. Luke.  Charles is a weaver.

Betty must have married very young in 1935 if she was on 20 in 1841, and Roger 28.  She was only 15 years.

In 1841, Roger and Betty (27 & 21) were at Lowton. Roger was a silk weaver.

In 1851, Roger and Betty Hart (37 & 31), both born at Lowton, were at Goldborne, Lancashire.

Betty died at Lowton in Mar 1859, aged 39.  They had no children (although Charles had a Brother William who married Mary Mather and they had several children at Lowton).
Martha Millner ~1805 Sarah Mather In 1824, Ssarah Mather was witness to Beatrice's marriage.  Were they sisters? ~1805 George Gillimore 1835 James Gillimore 1833 John Gillimore 1759 - 1793 Betty Green 34 34 In 1781, Betty Green married Nathan Mather

Betty must have died about 1792, as in Dec 1793, Nathan married Jane Birchenhead.  There is a death in 1789 for Betty Mather daughter of Mary Merredith of Bedfrod, Leigh.  Its unlikely this is Nathan's wife.  Nathan Mather of Westleigh had a still-born birth 11 Dec 1791, so his wife was still alive then.
1804 Henry Mather Henry is a son of John and Matty, born Atherton 25 Feb 1804.

NOTE: There is another Henry, bastard child of Alice Mather of Little Hulton, born Mar 1803.
Thomas Green Margaret Speakman 1757 - 1813 James Green 56 56 1789 - 1849 Nathan Monks 60 60 Parents Nathan & Jane Monks
