1828 Simon Mather In July 1850 Simon Mather (possibly another) was aquitted of "Larceny from the person".

24 Aug 1853, Simon son of Simon Mather married Jane Greenhalgh.  He is the only son or daughter to marry in Church (with father named as Simon), although Joseph also married in 1856.

In 1861, Simon and Jane (33 & 34) had Robert (7), Ellen (5), Frederick (3), Alphonza (1),

In 1861, Joseph U Mather, a cotton quilt manufacturer and Mary Ann (41 & 40) werre at 60 Mason Street, Bolton with their son Walter (2) and Alice Jackson (43, lodger), probably Mary Ann's sister (tbc).

Joseph Unsworth Mather died in 1874.
1827 - 1896 Jane Wolstencroft 69 69 On both her marriages, Jane records her father as George Wolstencroft, a cabinet maker. However there appears to be no such person and Jane may also have used the maiden name TOWNSON for two of her children.  It could be she was illegitimate or adopted.  All births (including both TOWNSON) were registered in Western Bolton.

26 Oct 1846, Jane Wolstencroft married John Greenhalgh.  Their marriage lasted 2 years before John died.

24 Aug 1853, Jane Greenhalgh was a widow when she married Simon Mather, a weaver at St Peter's, Bolton.  Her father was George Wolstencroft a cabinet maker.

1795 Thomas, third "daughter" (shoiuld be son) of Joseph and Hannah of Standishgate, Wigan, victuller
1752 - 1812 Alice Warburton 60 60 Alice is a possible wife of James the Butcher (widower that married Alice Taylor) who died in Wigan 1812.

This is probably Alice Warburton who married James Mather of Leyland, 19 April 1802 by licence at Bolton St Peter.

James, a taylor, and Alice had several children baptised at Middleton (inc David in 1807), but no match for Wigan (where Alice is buried).
1786 Betty Mather 1788 Margaret Mather 1793 Joseph Mather 1795 Thomas Mather ~1777 - 1803 James Mather 26 26 In 1797 James Mather, a weaver who could sign his name, married Alice Bradley at Bolton St. Peter.  For some reason or other the marriage must have been invalid because 16 months later they married (in the same church by the same curate) again

James died before his son James was baptised. in July 1803.
~1777 Alice Bradley Alice & James Mather were married in 1797, and then again in 1798.  The first marriage may not have been valid if one were under age, or the banns had not been read.

Thomas and James were born in 1798 and 1803, both at Darcy Lever.  Between them, William may also be theirs (abode not given).

James died in 1803 before their son James was baptised. Both James died the same year at Darcy Lever and were buried at St. Peters.

Alice Mather with two children at Darcy Lever, probably remarried at Bolton.
1799 William Mather William may be from another family as born soon after Thomas. 1803 - 1803 James Mather 2m 2m 1798 Thomas Mather Baptised 24 Jun 1798; abode: Darcy Lever.

In 1851, Thomas Mather (50), born Darcy Lever was a counterplane weaver at 76 Spring Gardens with his son James (14, born Bolton) and Thomas Grundy (lodger, 60, from Halliwell).

<unknown> 1837 James Mather In 1841 there are two James Mathers, aged 4.  One is the youngest son of Thomas Mather and Margaret Tinsley at Bengall Square.  This James died aged 10.  The other is the (baptised) son of James and Catherine Mather at Corronation Street. 1806 - 1854 James Mather 48 48 James is the son of James Mather, a weaver.

In 1841, James Mather and Elizabeth (35 & 30) were at Foggy Lane, Wigan with Sarah (10), Isaac (5) and John (2).

In 1841 & 1851, Daniel Allsop was a neighbour, widow of Sarah Ann Buckley who's younger sister Ellen married John Mather. There are several family connections to Shaw Street.

In 1851, Simon and Ellen (58 & 60; Hindley & Wigan) were at 45 Shaw Street, East Bolton and had Joseph Unsworth (31, son), Geoffery (27), Simon (23) and Thomas (18).  All the men were Bed Quilt Weavers.

Ellen died in 1853, aged 62, and Simon married Amelia Unsworth later the same year.

In 1861, Simon and Amelia (68 & 46) were at 66 Shaw Street, Eastern Bolton
1815 - 1893 Amelia Unsworth 78 78 Amelia, daughter of James (tbc) and Jane Jackson.

In 1881, Amelia Collier (64, Aunt), was still married but not with John and was housekeeper at 15 Hulme Street, Little Bolton for William and Ellen Kay.

In 1893, there was the only Amelia Collier death in Bolton for a Amila aged 77. This is a good match to Amelia Collier.

In 1841, Amelia Unsworth (25) and her daughter Jane (6) were living at Olive Row, Little Bolton.

Ellen and Henry had two children James and Ada who were with Henry and Mary Smith in 1891, so Ellen may have died and Henry remarried.

In 1881, Frederick and Ellen (23 & 21) were in Bolton.  Thay had a son George James in 1883 that died an infant.

In 1882, Henrietta married William Wareing.  They had 4 daughters (and another).

In 1911, William Waring (51, an Iron Turner) had a Henrietta Mather Waring (15), a adopted daughter.  His wife wasnt there. 3 of their 5 children were still alive.

1790 - 1793 Alice Mather 3 3 1792 John Mather 1794 - 1796 Alice Mather 2 2 Nancy was the second daughter (and second Alice) of John and Nancy.  Both daughterd died and are buried at Winwick. 1875 John Mather 1877 Alfred Mather 1853 Nancy Fogg 1825 - 1848 John Greenhalgh 23 23 John, son of John Greenhalgh of Great Bolton, a weaver 1847 - 1848 Robert Greenhalgh 8m 8m 1856 - 1857 Martha Mather 6m 6m Martha and Henrietta's births were registered with MMN = TOWNSON, not WOLSTENCROFT.

There were two Martha Mathers born about 1856, the other Q1 1857 (MMN = Rooney).  There is no Mather marriage to TOWNSON or ROONEY, ano no Martha listed on the 1861  Lancashire census.
1833 - 1887 Thomas Mather 54 54 In 1851, Thomas (18) was a bed quilt maker with his parents Simon and Ellen in Little Bolton.

In Q2 1855 Thomas married Harriet Horrocks, (Bolton RO).

In 1861, Thomas was away.  Harriet Mather (Mar, 24)  and daughter Eliza Ann (4) were lodging with Elizabeth Booth (30, head) at Flag Row, Turton.

In 1866, Thomas has his daughter Eliza Ann baptised at Walmsley.  She was aged 9.

1837 - 1897 Harriet Horrocks 60 60 In 1861, Thomas was away.  Harriet Mather (Mar, 24)  and daughter Eliza Ann (4) were lodging with Elizabeth Booth (30, head) at Flag Row, Turton.

Daughter Eliza Ann moved to Tockholes where she married John Samuel Taylor in 1879.

In 1881, Harriet Mather was housekeeper at "De Rothwell Arms", Goose Cote Hill, Turton for William Pickup (39, Unmarried).  With her were Mary Jane (12) and William Henry (9).  It is likely that Mary Jane is William Pickup's daughter as she was registerted illegitimate with full name Mary Jane Pickup Mather.

In 1891 Harriet (53 is described as wife of William Pickup (49, Quarryman) but they never married was also living in Tockholes.  William Henry (19), Mary Jane (22) and Alice Ann Pickup (19) are described as his son and daughters. Her granddaughter Lydia Taylor (10) is a lodger.

Harriet was married to Thomas Mather but living with William Pickup when William Henry was born, yet for William's 1893 marriage he records his father as James Mather, a collier  (rather unlikely)

26 May 1893, William Henty Mather (22) of 13 George Street, son of "James Mather" a collier (unlikely) married Alice McDona (22) of 26 George Street, daughter of James a carpenter at St George's, Little Bolton. William probably invented a Mather father so as not to appear illegitimate.
1871 Alice McDona 1869 Mary Jane Pickup Mather In 1871 Mary J P Mather (2) was at Cox Green, Turton with her older sisters Eliza Ann (14) and Alice A (4).

In 1881, Harriet Mather was housekeeper at "De Rothwell Arms", Turton for William Pickup (39, Unmarried).  With her were Mary Jane (12) and William Henry (9).  It is likely that Mary Jane is William Pickup's daughter as she was registerted illegitimate with full name Mary Jane Pickup Mather.
1842 William Pickup 1880 Lydia Taylor 1883 John Samuel Taylor 1887 Albert Ernest Taylor 1890 Mary Ellen Taylor ~1750 John Mather Martha Thomason Martha, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (aka Betty) Thomason 1790 Ann Marsh Mather Ann Marsh, 3rd daughter of John and Martha 1784 Peggy Mather 1799 Mary Mather ~1755 Jeffery Mather ~1755 Ann Coop Ann's parents were Joseph and Margaret Coope (as shown on son Jeffery's baptism) 1787 Jeffery Mather Jeffery was the 3rd son of Jeffery a weaver and Ann Coope of Hindley. ~1780 Elizabeth Mather Elizabeth, Daughter of Geoffery and Ann Mather married George Mardew and had a son George at Hindley in 1800 1789 Sarah Mather Sarah was the 7th daughter of Geoffry Mather and Ann Coop 1831 - ~1874 Thomas Mather 43 43 In 1851, Thomas Mather (27) was a Power Loom Weaver at Cannon Street, Western Bolton (Emmanuel) with his parents.

In Q1 1864, Thomas married Pheobe Causey (or Corsey) at Christ Church, Bolton.

In 1871, Thomas Mather (39) a Labourer at the Gas Works and "Poebe" (assume Phoebe, 30) were at 118 Cannon Street, Bolton with their son Thomas Cassady (10).  Thomas was born at Bolton, Phoebe at Aspull Moor and their son Thomas Cassady at Wigan.

Thomas must have died between 1871 and 1875 (aged about 42) when Phoeby remarried Thomas Webb. However there are no Bolton death records for a Thomas Mather between the ages of (23 and 50).  Also, there was no death record for her second husband.
1839 Poebe Causey Pheobe Corsey in 1864 (when married). Poebe Mather (nee Cassady) in 1871

About 1841, Phoebe was born at Aspull Moor

Q1 1864, Pheobe Corsey married Thomas Mather at Christ Church, Bolton

In 1871, Thomas Mather (39) a Labourer at the Gas Works and Poebe were at 118 Cannon Street, Western Bolton with their son Thomas Cassady (10).

Q4 1875, Phoebe Mather married Thomas Webb.
