Alice was born in 1831 in Pilkington.1  Alice's father was Michael Mather and her mother was Betty Street.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Scholes. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Wright, Michael, John, Charles, Ann, Betty and Mary.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.

‌Alice and Stanley were married in a religious ceremony on June 6th, 1852 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich) by Curate John Booker BA and witnessed by Richard Thorpe & John Mather.2  The family line is yet to be completed.
