Ellen's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Barlow.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Ingram. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Hardy, James, John, William, Rachel, Sally and Martha.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at 9 months old in January 1801 in Whitefield.  She was buried on January 3rd, 1801 in Prestwich.²
