Samuel was born in 1782 in Radcliffe and his baptism took place on January 27th, 1782 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).1  Samuel's father was Robert Madther and his mother was Rachel Ogden. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, James, Sally, Ann and Rachel.  He was the youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 56 in September 1838 in Whitefield.  He was buried on September 30th, 1838 in Stand.2
