Rachel's father was John Mather and her mother was Mary Allen. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Robert, John, Ann, Mary, Fanny and Sarah. She was the third oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 37 on October 9th, 1861 in Whitefield. Her burial was in October 1861 in Stand.²
