Thomas was born in August 1800 in Whitefield and his baptism took place on August 3rd, 1800 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Ann Ingham.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Rachel Ogden. He had three brothers named Robert, James and Richard.  He was the youngest of the four children.
