Betty was born on June 5th, 1808 in Whitefield and her baptism took place on July 31st, 1808 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Betty's father was James Madther and her mother was Mary Walker.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Rachel Ogden. She had a brother named John.  She was the older of the two known children.
