Jesse was born in 1792 in Whitefield and his baptism took place on February 5th, 1792 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1 2  Jesse's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Margaret Scholes. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Michael and Ellen.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 59 in August 1851 in Whitefield.  He was buried in August 1851 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).3 



Jesse's family with Hannah Emmerson

‌Jesse and Hannah were married in a religious ceremony on June 10th, 1813 in Prestwich.  They had five biological sons and seven biological daughters, named Robert, James, Joseph, Nathan, Aaron, Betty, Ellen, Hannah, Mary, Sarah, Rachel and Leah.  They also had an adopted daughter named Esther.  There are no more children.
