James was born on October 8th, 1832 in Whitefield and his baptism took place on January 6th, 1833 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1 2  James' father was Thomas Taylor and his mother was Elizabeth (Lissey) Walker.  His paternal grandparents were James Taylor and Rachel Madther. He had four sisters named Ann, Mary, Alice and Nancy. He had an adopted brother named James.
