Francis was born on February 9th, 1832 in Whitefield and his baptism took place on April 20th, 1832 at All Saints (Stand).1 2  Francis' father was James Chadwick Mather and his mother was Sarah Charlton.  His paternal grandparents were Francis Mather and Elizabeth Chadwick. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Sarah, James, Thomas, Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 70 on September 24th, 1902 in Prestwich.  He was buried in September 1902 in Whitefield.1

‌Francis and Rachel were married in a religious ceremony on September 7th, 1853 at All Saints (Stand) by Vicar Thomas Corser and witnessed by James Chadwick Mather, Jnr. & Anne Mather.4  They had four sons and four daughters, named Francis, William, Arthur, Thomas, Elizabeth, Emma, Betsy and Sarah.  There are no more children.
