Esther was born on July 3rd, 1807 in Whitefield and her baptism took place on August 9th, 1807 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Esther's father was Francis Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Chadwick. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Richard, John, Francis, James, Mary, Hannah, Sally and Hannah.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
