Margaret's father was William Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Ingram.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Joanna Hilton. She had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Richard, William, Samuel and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
