Martin was born in 1725 in Bolton and his baptism took place on February 8th, 1725 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Martin's father was John Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Holden. He had a brother named John.  He was the older of the two known children. He had a half-brother named Thomas.  He died in 1725 in Bolton.2
