Ann was born on August 25th, 1835 in Whitefield and her baptism took place on November 15th, 1835 in Pilkington conducted by James Booth.1 2  Ann's father was Peter Taylor Mather and her mother was Alice Rothwell.  Her paternal grandparents were James Taylor and Rachel Madther. She had two brothers and a sister, named Samuel, James and Mary.  She was the youngest of the four known children.
