Ellen, known as Margaret A, was born in March 1866 in Pilkington.1  Margaret A's father was John Mather and her mother was Margaret Ann Seal.  Her paternal grandparents were James Chadwick Mather and Sarah Charlton. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Charlton, James, Alexis, Sarah, Alice and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
