Blanche was born in September 1875 in Barton upon Irwell.1  Blanche's father was James Chadwick Mather and her mother was Sarah Dickinson.  Her paternal grandparents were James Chadwick Mather and Sarah Charlton. She had three brothers and five sisters, named James, Francis, Chadwick, Elizabeth, Sarah, Amelia, Amy and Rose.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
