Mary was born in 1827 in Whitefield.1  Mary's father was Jesse Mather and her mother was Hannah Emmerson.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Scholes. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Robert, James, Joseph, Nathan, Aaron, Betty, Ellen, Hannah, Sarah, Rachel and Leah. She had an adopted sister named Esther.

‌Mary and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony on May 27th, 1849 at All Saints (Stand) by Curate Thomas Corser and witnessed by Nathan Mather & George Hilton.2  They had a son and a daughter, named Mark and Elizabeth.  There are possibly more children.
