John Mather

John was born in 1798 in Whitchurch and his baptism took place on July 22nd, 1798 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).¹

John's father was James Taylor and his mother was Rachel Madther.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Rachel Ogden. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Peter, Thomas, William, Rachel and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
